- Game Trailers now schooling gamers on Final Fantasy history
A little over a month ago, GameTrailers.com began its "Final Fantasy Retrospective", a survey of the Final Fantasy series, beginning with its humble origins some twenty years ago. Aside from being extremely well put-together and informative, it features references to some of our favorite embarrassing Square titles, from Alpha to 3-D Worldrunner. Now in its sixth installment featuring Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy XI, it is a comprehensive look at one of Square Enix's flagship series and a definite must-watch for any fan or historian. Now that G4 has hit rock bottom, GameTrailers.com appears to be a source for thoughtful programming woefully unavailable elsewhere. Watch Now

- E3 2007 - Square Enix to bring online store stateside
In addition to its E3 lineup announcement, Square Enix has revealed its scheme to open a North American online store. Square Enix, as a self-described "premiere [maker] of high end-collectibles" plans to stock a multitude of "popular and hard-to-find items" including Master Arms, Play Arts, and Mechanical Arts spanning various series, from Final Fantasy to Kingdom Hearts. Clearly, Square Enix has seen that someone, somewhere is making money selling its products. The immediate consequence will likely find many third-party vendors competing for profits with Square Enix itself. The Online Store
- Tara Strong to voice Kluke in Blue Dragon
Tara Strong, who performed the role of Rikku in Final Fantasy X-2, is currently at work voicing the character of Kluke in Blue Dragon. "I love playing 'Kluke,'" the veteran voice actor says. Individually priced at 2,800 yen ($25.25 USD), the line will be available come September 8th. Famitsu
- Final Fantasy X-2 out in Europe; International+Last Mission in Japan

- Squenix: "No Final Fantasy X-4 planned."
Motomu Toriyama and Takayoshi Nakazato of the Final Fantasy X-2 International+Last Mission development team, who recently completed the title that launches in Japan and Europe next month, told Famitsu that the game's Last Mission section is equivalent to what a hypothetical X-3 would be. They also said not to expect a X-4. Whether the company will pull a Nullsoft and release Final Fantasy X-5 out of the blue is unknown.
- Final Fantasy X-2 sells 1 Million
On January 20th, Square Enix announced that since it's North American release in the fall, FFX-2 has sold over 1 million copies. Worldwide, over 6.6 million copies have been sold, and this is before it's Europe release. Between the two, both FFX and FFX-2 have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. Together they account for 20% of the entire series' sales, making them the most successful titles in the franchise, in terms of sales. 1up.com
- Final Fantasy X-2 not fucked up for Europe
Next to the previously reported inclusion of International+Last Mission content in the European release of Final Fantasy X-2, Electronic Arts (responsible for its localisation in this territory) announced this week that the title, currently scheduled for a mid-February release, would not support switching between 50 and 60hz display modes as is present in many other titles. When Final Fantasy X was released in Europe in May 2002, the title suffered from this decision through the ever-present large horizontal black bars running along the top and bottom of the screen. EA assures us this will not be the case this time around, however, going on to say that it will look "identical to the US version of the title". Let's hope so. There's nothing great about squashed T&A.
- X-2 International+Last Mission has children
Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy X-2 International+Last Mission, to be released in Japan on February 19 next year, will include a movie of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Now you actually have a reason to import it! Whether the upcoming PAL release of the game will include the video too is unknown, but probably not. Gamefront

- Final Fantasy X-2 homepage opens
Check out them titties at SQEX's official Final Fantasy X-2 homepage! I did not check out them titties, especially not Rikku's overappreciated rack, which lead to many of my co-workers thinking I am gay. So be warned. FFX-2 homepage
- Final Fantasy X-2 will kick ass in NA and Europe
Famitsu reports that the much hyped Creature Creation system that will be in the upcoming Japanese release of Final Fantasy X-2 International+Last Mission has also been confirmed for the NA version of the title, leading Gamefront to believe that the NA version of the game will, in fact, include all elements of the International version. And if North America is getting it, then Europe is likely getting it too. Hopefully they won't muck up the NTSC to PAL hertz conversion this time around. Gamefront
- More news on stable and official things, like Final Fantasy X-2
Finally some interesting information of value for resident naysayer dragmire, as EA has announced a special one-time agreement with Square Enix that will see it publishing Final Fantasy X-2 in Europe in early 2004, instead of Atari. As reported previously, Europeans will be receiving the International version of the game, as was the case with Final Fantasy X in 2001. Gamefront
- Squenix reveals Final Fantasy X-2 International and Last Mission
Unfortunately for Americans, Final Fantasy X-2 is on the horizon, yet Square Enix is already developing the oh-so-unexpected "international" version of the game which will sport an extra dungeon and job class. It will also presumably be released in Europe, further contributing to the major asskicking the company seems to want to do on the continent. Haha to you. Gamefront
- Atari starts to kick ass in Europe
Atari, the European publisher of Squenix titles, has announced that it will be releasing Unlimited Saga: Collector's Edition because the game obviously got so slammed by critics that no one will want to buy it unless they release it with the specified Bonus Disc containing the Final Fantasy X Eternal Calm movie (retitled as "Final Fantasy X-2 Prologue"). Eternal Calm is a 14 minute long movie that was previously available on the Japanese version of FFX International. The contents of the disc have been remastered and are in English with five different languages available in subtitles. Gamefront

The single comes with a DVD containing an interview, trailer, and song. Gamefront
- Square Haven pulls shit out of ass, calls it "content"
Preserving the grand SH traditions of extreme procrastination and blatant pilfering of unoriginal, second-hand insights from "primary sources" (since we were nowhere within 600 miles of LA) our untimely (only one month late) retrospective on the Square Enix games of E3 2003 is about as significant as Square's presence at the show and, naturally, is missing the only game anyone actually gave a whit about. - Final Fantasy X-2 sells 2 million copies
So. Since March 13th FFX-2 has sold slightly over 2 million copies in Japan, making it uh, a multi-million seller. Square Enix expects the title to do even better when it hits the wild west presumably later this year, as non-Japan territories have been more successful for Squenix titles for a while now. Oh, and here's a video of Final Fantasy XI: Vision of Girade.
- 1:10 scale Yuna soon ready for 'consumption', no blow-up dolls planned
Square Enix president Yoichi Wada commented on upcoming game development for the company today, stating that new titles will be more "aware" of the networking capabilities (i.e. online) of PlayOnline. Additionally, developers from both Square and Enix have remained with the new company and will be meeting later this week to discuss new, original Squenix titles, of which we can expect to see on in around one year from now. Oh yes, and they also plan to release a 1:10 scale Yuna doll from Final Fantasy X-2.

Kitase and previous statements from Square suggest that there will be no FFX-3, however.
- No more FFX-2 shipments, says Square
Square has announced that following the initial shipment of 1.8 million units of Final Fantasy X-2, which sold 1.2 million copies in a day last week, there will be no more copies made available, even when this batch runs out. Why Square would do something odd like that is questionable, but it possibly has something to do with the upcoming creation of Square Enix. Gamefront

Other points of interest were the funky-lookin' PN03, which walked away with a disappointing 7/10, Soul Calibur 2 which took the lead this week with an 8,6 from Dorimaga, and Made in Wario, which Famitsu PS2 gave 35/40 also.
